On a lovely September Fall Day, a group of New Hampton School seniors joined a few DMHA Board members for the annual fall clean up in honor of their Founders Day of Service.
This is the second year that the Dana Meeting House Association has had the honor of partnering with the School. We are grateful for another wonderful day of volunteerism and sharing passion around the history of the Meeting House.
While the students were invited to help wipe down all the wooden sheep pens, and dust and sweep, this year also included prepping the meeting house for the upcoming work of the ceiling restoration. All the framed old photos of the founders as well as other
memorabilia, old books and the hymnals had to be collected and removed for safe storage.
Students helped move boxes to one Board member’s local farm, Rockledge, and were enchanted by the cows grazing just outside the kitchen window.
It’s important that young people can connect to the Dana Meeting House, learn its history, and see how different life was when the Meeting House was built and was such an active part of the Town. Through education, we can preserve the history and stewardship of our shared pasts.
