Thanks to the many volunteers and members who helped out in 2021, the Dana Meeting House Association is proud to announce that summer events were well attended and this first season was a huge success. The events that were hosted were diverse and brought in many different attendees who were able to experience the uniqueness of the Meeting House and to gather together. A Memorial Day Vesper service led by Rev. Campbell Lovett of Holderness ushered in the summer season with bell ringing for the New Hampton military service men lost in the line of duty.
Rev. Campbell continued to host a series of Vesper services throughout the summer. These Sunday Evening services offered music, contemplation and inspiration.
July’s events included an historic talk with Dr. Robert Goodby and an evening with the Baker Valley Band and ice cream social. Dr. Goodby, from Franklin Pierce University, spoke to a crowd of over 40 visitors about his work as an archaeologist and his research on the Abenaki people who settled across New England and Quebec 11,000 years ago.
The last day of July celebrated an ice cream social and fun music on the lawn with the Baker Valley Band. This local band performed lively Americana music from the 1860s on up to the present.
A major highlight of the summer was the exhibit, “Quilts of Dana Hill” hosted by Eileen Lovett and Nancy Poor. Participants were invited to “adopt a sheep pen” and exhibit family quilts and other fiber memorabilia. Visitors were given ballots and voted for their favorite quilts.
Outside and under the tent, Dana Hill resident, Lucie Brown of Three Creeks Farm NH was on hand with one of her baby Dorset Sheep, Lamby, tended by her daughter Genevieve and toddler Emmet. She also displayed hand dyed wool, a carder and gave demonstrations on peg board weaving.
This year’s final event will be on December 12—the Second Annual Tree Lighting and outside carol sing. For more information, visit the Facebook Page. Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this first season for the DMHA such a success! See you in 2022!
